Poderi Aldo Conterno is a premier Barolo producer located in the Bussia Soprana cru of Monforte d'Alba in Piedmont, Italy. Founded in 1969 when Aldo Conterno split from his family's historic Giacomo Conterno estate, the winery has established itself as one of the region's most respected producers. The estate encompasses approximately 25 hectares of prime vineyard land in Bussia Soprana, with three renowned sites—Colonello, Cicala, and Romirasco—forming the backbone of their single-vineyard Barolo production. The calcareous clay-marl soils and favorable southern exposures provide ideal conditions for growing Nebbiolo.
Aldo Conterno embraced what might be called "enlightened traditionalism"—respecting Barolo's heritage while implementing thoughtful innovations.
Their key wines include Barolo "Granbussia" Riserva, the flagship wine produced only in exceptional vintages; Barolo "Romirasco", "Cicala", and "Colonnello", single-vineyard expressions showcasing the distinct characteristics of each site; and Barolo "Bussia", a blend from younger vines across the estate.
Since Aldo's passing in 2012, his three sons—Franco, Stefano, and Giacomo—have maintained the estate's commitment to quality while carefully guiding it into the future. Poderi Aldo Conterno continues to produce wines that rank among Italy's finest, maintaining a reputation for excellence and authentic expression of Barolo's terroir that has influenced winemakers throughout Italy and beyond.
