Description
The elegance and aromatic finesse of a Pomerol wine
The estate
Owned by the Bourotte-Audy family, the Clos du Clocher estate is located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau. Like a "wonderful garden" surrounded by walls, Clos du Clocher is an essential reference for great Pomerol wines thanks to its assertive and unique style.
The vineyard
The Clos du Clocher vineyard extends over 5.76 hectares of vines with an average age of 41 years. Located on the Pomerol plateau, facing the church, the vineyard enjoys an exceptional location. The vines of Clos du Clocher are planted on clay-gravel soils resting on subsoils of blue clays and deep gravels. Committed to a global environmental policy, the vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture.
The vintage
The warm and particularly rainy winter promotes the early bud break of the vine. These climatic conditions developed a strong mildew pressure in the spring. The early flowering suggests a homogeneous harvest. Thanks to sufficient water reserves, the vine does not suffer from the dry summer and the particularly hot beginning of September. Harvested at full maturity, the berries present beautiful acid-sugar balances and the yields are significant.
Vinification and aging
The berries are harvested and sorted manually then transported to the vat room in crates to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Parcel by parcel, gentle and natural, the vinification is carried out in small capacity stainless steel and thermoregulated cement vats as well as in barrels (integral vinification). The vinification is accompanied by manual pump-overs and punch-downs. The malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, as does the aging for 18 months (60% new barrels).
Blend
Merlot (75%) and cabernet franc (25%).
Characteristics and tasting advice for Clos du Clocher 2020
Tasting
Clos du Clocher 2020 seduces with the expression of the two grape varieties that make up its blend. The intense aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberries) characteristic of merlot mingle with very soft tannins and a enveloping palate. More discreet, the cabernet franc seduces with its spicy aromas as well as its firm and elegant structure.
