Description
6 vintages of a fine Pomerol wine comprised in a limited edition collector’s box set
The estate
Located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, a stone's throw away from the Church of Saint-Jean, Château Saint-Pierre is a must-know reference in the appellation. Château Saint-Pierre is renowned for its silky, full-bodied and structured red Pomerol wines. The wines of Château Saint-Pierre are undoubtedly age-worthy Pomerol wines.
The vineyard
Château Saint-Pierre is a Pomerol wine that stems from a 3-hectare vineyard. This terroir extends over 5 parcels of land. The soil is predominantly composed of gravel and sand and the vines are poised on the top of the appellation’s plateau.
The wine
The Pradel de Lavaux family boasts a rich winegrowing history on the right bank of Bordeaux that harks back to 1740. The family acquired Château Saint-Pierre in 1920.
Axel Pradel de Lavaux is the 9th generation to manage the estate. When he arrived in 2014, he began an ambitious parcel study with Frédéric Massie, oenologist from the Derenoncourt Consultants team, in order to better understand the typicity of the estate's soils. While this study led to the creation of the estate's second wine, II de Saint-Pierre, major investments were made during this time, both in the vineyard (improving the soil’s characteristics, introducing the Cabernet Franc varietal) and in the cellar (modernising the estate’s winemaking facilities, plot-based vinification).
This Vertical Collection Series 2014 to 2019 reveals the character and finesse of the first six vintages produced thanks to the work and rigour of the estate’s new team.
2014: Marking the team's takeover of the vineyard, this vintage exudes an alluringly complex nose and delicate, crystalline palate. 100% Merlot.
2015: Gradually developing their biodiversity, the soils give rise to a fine wine that combines an intense bouquet with a lively and enfolding palate. 100% Merlot.
2016 : The harmonious and homogeneous evolution of the vines is reflected in a floral nose and precedes a fresh and precise palate. 100% Merlot.
2017 : Spared by the frost, the terroir of Château Saint-Pierre is fully expressed through a balanced, delicate and silky wine. 100% Merlot.
2018: Marking the introduction of the Cabernet Franc varietal into the blend, 2018 reveals a fresh nose along with a mineral and structured palate. 86% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc.
2019 : A beautifully ripe vintage, this shorter-than-average vinification process leads to a fruity, floral nose and a powerful, delicate palate. 83% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc.
