An exceptional Pomerol wine with silky tannins and remarkable freshness
The property
Château Rouget, located in Pomerol near Bordeaux, is one of the oldest crus in the region, with origins dating back to the end of the Roman Empire and official recognition since 1700. Spanning 17 hectares, the vineyard is mainly planted with merlot (85%) and cabernet franc, cultivated using traditional methods. Since 1992, the Labruyère family, under the direction of Edouard Labruyère, has undertaken significant improvements, maintaining the reputation of the establishment among the best in Pomerol thanks to a unique terroir and careful winemaking.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Rouget in Pomerol extends over soils composed of gravel and clay, with gravelly ridges and clay-gravel terraces. The vines, about 40 years old, are planted at a density of 7500 feet per hectare. The soil work is meticulous, including scratching, plowing and grassing. A rigorous mass selection and a reasoned phytosanitary fight are practiced to preserve the quality of the terroir.
The vintage
Marked by unstable conditions, the 2019 vintage benefited from a hot summer, alternating droughts and salutary rains, promoting optimal maturity of the berries.
Vinification and aging
Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo a rigorous sorting before vinification at 40% in whole harvests and 60% in wooden vats. The aging is carried out in barrels, 30% of which are new wood.
Blend
Merlot, cabernet franc.
