Description

The charm and voluptuousness of a Grand Cru Classé from Margaux in a superb vintage in 9

The property
With origins dating back to the 12th century, Château Margaux is one of those Grand Crus that have built the legend of great Bordeaux wines around the world. The château was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and was the only one of the four châteaux presented to have obtained a score of twenty out of twenty. With the acquisition of the property in 1977 by André Mentzelopoulos, Château Margaux writes a new page in its history. Raising the Grand Vin of Château Margaux to the highest level, he reintroduced the Second Wine of the château, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, initiated in 1908. Following in her father's footsteps due to his premature death, Corinne Mentzelopoulos took up the family banner with energy and passion to maintain the rank of Château Margaux, which has become a Bordeaux masterpiece, so recognizable by its neo-Palladian style. Vintage after vintage, the wines of the property are among the greatest wines in the world.

The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Margaux owes its uniqueness to its rare and unique terroir, located on a gravel mound. The grape variety of the property gives pride of place to the flagship black grape of the area, cabernet sauvignon, not forgetting merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. The clay-limestone soils of the estate give birth to legendary wines, with a sleek and sensual style, so representative of the Margaux appellation.

The vintage
2019 will be remembered as the hottest year ever recorded in France. After a mild winter and a mild spring marked by heavy rainfall, the summer of 2019 was marked by heatwave temperatures. At Château Margaux, the harvest began on September 18 and ended on October 10. The disruption from September 22 to 29 allowed for a slower ripening of the grapes with very good acidity levels and average alcohol levels.

Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (90%), merlot (7%), cabernet franc (2%), petit verdot (1%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Margaux 2019

Tasting
The Grand Vin of Château Margaux 2019 will undoubtedly be one of the very great vintages of the property. While the blend is dominated by cabernet sauvignon, the addition of the Haut du Jardin plot with the merlots adds a nice roundness to the Grand Vin. 2019 is also the first vintage of the property entirely born and shaped in the new facilities of the property following the construction of the winery initiated by André Mentzelopoulos in the late 70s.
