Characteristics and tasting advice for Y 2016

Palate
On the palate, this cuvée displays great tension combined with a lot of breadth and a formidable length.

A Bordeaux White Wine of great tension

The property

Located south of Bordeaux, the Château d'Yquem is one of the most prestigious references among the great wines of Sauternes. This legendary Premier Cru Classé Supérieur enjoys an exceptional terroir and produces wines that are sought after worldwide.

The vineyard

Château d’Yquem is an extraordinary place, rich in a hundred hectares of Sauternes vineyards planted on a mosaic of gravelly-sandy terroirs.

The wine

Produced under the Bordeaux White Wines appellation, Y is an exceptional wine, limited to a production of only 10,000 bottles per vintage. Originating from the same prestigious vineyards as Château d'Yquem, it stands out for its specific harvest and production method.

The vintage
The 2016 vintage is characterized by a hot and dry summer, where the vine resisted well thanks to its water reserves. The flowering was late and yet, the harvest began as early as September 5, ending on September 13 just before the heavy rains that fell in the region. This year, the sémillons were as early as the sauvignons.

Vinification and aging

In the cellar, this wine benefits from careful vinification including gentle and precise pressing, meticulous settling, and temperature-controlled fermentation. The aging is carried out on lees in barrels (80% in barrels of a Yquem wine and 20% new) with regular stirring.

Blend

Sauvignon blanc (75%)
Sémillon (25%).
