Description
Hennessy delivers a rich and complex cognac
Hennessy: a distillery with international renown
Founded in 1765 by Irish military officer Richard Hennessy and James, his eldest son, the Hennessy House is one of the most significant cognac producers in the world. For over 250 years, the Hennessy House has been crafting its cognacs in the heart of its region of origin, Charente. Responsible and committed to the protection of its terroir, Hennessy shines
The Hennessy family entrusts the tasting of its cognacs to the Fillioux family, Master Blenders from generation to generation. This lineage has been perpetuated for two centuries now. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde represents the eighth generation in charge of the blend.
The Hennessy House stands out for its expertise, its uniqueness, and the excellence of its know-how, which is reflected in cuvées recognized beyond borders for their exceptional quality.
XO, an exceptional spirit
With a rich and complex architecture, the XO cuvée is composed of an unprecedented and original blend called Extra Old (XO) made from old eaux-de-vie.
It was initially a creation, intended for a circle of intimates, crafted in 1870 by two passionate men: Maurice Hennessy (fourth generation of Hennessy) and Émile Fillioux (third generation of Master Blenders). It was during a lunch at the Château de Bagnolet that the first bottle of Extra Old cognac was reportedly tasted by the close friends of the two creators.
The XO cuvée is presented in a carafe, with a sought-after design, created by Frank Gehry in a magnificent black and gold box.
Characteristics and tasting advice for Hennessy's XO
Tasting
Color
The color is a beautiful amber with mahogany reflections.
Nose
Subtle and spicy, the nose seduces with its notes of candied fruit.
Palate
Complex and persistent on the palate, this cognac has a creamy texture that reveals a hint of wild cocoa and woody notes expressed thanks to its long aging
Service
It is recommended to serve this cognac in a tulip glass or a balloon glass. As an indication, the shape of the tulip glass facilitates the gradual release of aromas, allowing for a more precise judgment than the use of the balloon glass.
