Description
A Pouilly Fume with Aromas of Citrus and Flint
The Jolivet family first entered the world of wine in 1926, when Louis Jolivet and his son Lucien established a wine merchant company. It was Lucien's grandson Pascal Jolivet who in 1987 created his namesake "Pascal Jolivet" brand and began producing his very own range of wines. Pascal acquired his first Pouilly Fume vineyard of 6.5 hectares (16 acres) in Tracy-sur-Loire. Today his estate represents around 90 hectares (222 acres) between Puilly Fume and Sancerre. For Joliet, the Sauvignon Blanc grape is all about precision, balance and freshness. In his signature cuvees, he strives to amplify the purity of the fruit and to offer an authentic expression of terroir by using only indigenous yeasts. The Pascal Jolivet Puilly-Fume 2017 is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc wine, grown in a mix of terroirs: 50% limestone, 30% flint and 20% limestone clay. The limestone brings minerality and finesse, while limestone-clay enhances fruit and richesse, and flint provides the finished wine with its structure and signature minerality. The wines from the different terroirs are vinified separately in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks and made with exclusively indigenous yeasts. The Pascal Joliver Pouilly Fume 2017 is a classic from this appellation. On the nose, the intense bouquet reveals aromas of citrus with an emblematic smoky, flinty characteristic. On the palate, this Pouilly Fume shows off a medium-to-full-bodied texture, bold flavors of citrus and a long, persistent and very clean finish. A great glass of wine to enjoy in its youth, either on its own or paired with goat cheese, another speciality of this region.
