Description
A balanced and intense Priorat red wine
The estate
Founded by Juan Extrems Doix in 1850 and located in the south of Catalonia in the Priorat region, the Mas Doix estate swiftly won awards for the quality of its wines and was recognized as a benchmark for great Spanish wines.
The Celler Mas Doix winery was founded in 1998 by the Doix & Llagostera families in the village of Poboleda, in the heart of the Priorat region, bordering the Serra de Montsant mountain chain and the Siurana Valley.
Produced in limited quantities, Mas Doix wines express the purity and excellence of the Priorat terroir with utter refinement, authenticity and finesse.
The vineyard
Salanques 2019 by Mas Doix is a Priorat wine made from vineyards located on the hills of Llicorella, between 350 and 450 meters above sea level. Despite very low yields, this terroir is known for producing high quality wines.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage was marked by a strong heatwave in June, which mainly affected the Carignan vineyards. The hot summer was punctuated by rainy spells which kick-started the ripening process. The grapes harvested were healthy, concentrated and well-balanced.
Vinification and aging
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyards and then upon arrival at the vat house following a total destemming on a double sorting table. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (50% new and 50% two years old).
The blend
80-year-old Grenache (65%)
80-year-old Carignan (25%)
Syrah (10%).
