Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Rauzan-Ségla 2010

Tasting

Color
Beautiful deep and intense violet color.

Nose
The nose is complex and marked by red and black fruits, subtly supported by spicy and mineral touches.

Palate
Silky and pure palate of remarkable length. With the 2012 vintage, Château Rauzan-Ségla signs a wine full of nuances, amplitude and tenderness. A wine that is increasingly faithful to the identity of Margaux.

The structure and complexity of a great Margaux red wine

The property

Grand Cru Classé of Margaux, the Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of those prestigious Bordeaux wines with a thrilling history. For 350 years, Rauzan-Ségla has been seeking precision by repeating the same gestures of a profession combining art and craftsmanship. Second Cru Classé in 1855, Château Rauzan-Ségla is one of the most prestigious references of the Margaux appellation.

The vineyard

The vines dedicated to this vintage are on average 35 years old and extend over 66 hectares. In the heart of the Margaux appellation, the Château Rauzan-Ségla vineyard is located, near La Gironde, on fine and deep clayey gravels typical of this terroir.

The vintage

The 2010 vintage follows on from 2009, marked by a dry climate and a persistent water deficit for the ninth consecutive year. After a harsh winter, the vegetation woke up in early April under warm and sunny weather. Cooler and rainier May and June led to heterogeneous flowering of the merlots, with coulure and millerandage on some plots. The dry summer favored a trouble-free veraison and maintained a healthy vineyard. The thermal amplitude of September and October favored optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest, spread over four weeks due to late flowering, exceptionally ended on October 19. The choice of harvest date was crucial to obtain concentrated grapes, with an imposing tannic structure, while maintaining freshness and balance. Thanks to the patience and meticulous work of the teams, the 2010 vintage was approached with serenity and the certainty of producing a great wine.

Vinification and aging

Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by regular pumping over. Maceration from 18 to 25 days depending on the grape varieties. Malolactic fermentation: in tanks, and some batches in barrels. Aging for about 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (60 %), merlot (37 %), cabernet franc (2 %), petit verdot (2 %).
