Description

The generosity and elegance of a great Pauillac with character

The property
5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, the Château Pédesclaux was founded under the impetus of Urbain-Pierre Pédesclaux, a wine broker, at the beginning of the 19th century. Arriving at the head of the estate in 2009, the Lorenzetti family has elevated the cru to the highest level by equipping it with state-of-the-art facilities. 2014 notably marks the construction of a new gravity-fed cellar signed by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. In 2018, Manon Lorenzetti took over the reins of the property, infusing a dynamic energy into the estate.

The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Pédesclaux extends over 50 hectares of vines spread over 19 different terroirs in the heart of the AOC Pauillac. The vineyard is thus managed by Vincent Bache-Gabrielsen, advised by the oenologist Éric Boissenot.

The vintage
Benefiting from an exceptional terroir "that looks at the water", the location of the Château Pédesclaux vineyard, located in the immediate vicinity of the Gironde estuary, spared it from the damage caused by the frost episodes at the end of April 2017. The climatic conditions that followed allowed for the optimal development of the vine's vegetative cycle to carry out early harvests under the sign of serenity. Phenolic maturity, freshness of the fruit, perfect sugar-acidity balance, long and fine tannins, the expression of each grape variety was promising.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (25%), cabernet franc (7%) and petit verdot (3%).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Pédesclaux 2017

Tasting

Nose
With a magnificent bouquet, clearly marked by the imprint of cabernet sauvignon, this vintage opens with the power of notes of blackcurrant and small black fruits, giving way to the spicy scents of cinnamon and aniseed licorice enhanced by the beautiful freshness of peppery notes.

Palate
A monument of structure, the palate reveals the elegance and voluptuousness of the tannins whose fine grain coats the palate, without the power of the fruit weakening in the mouth, stretching into a superb mineral finish. Complete, intense, with a superb depth and a remarkable fruity greediness, all the elements are in place to make Château Pédesclaux 2017 a great Pauillac ready to cross the coming decades with panache.
