A great Pessac-Léognan wine marked by elegance and precision

The property

The oldest of the Bordeaux Grands Crus, Château Haut-Brion boasts a rich heritage built over five centuries of history. Founded in 1533 by Jean de Pontac in the Graves region, Château Haut-Brion's wine was quickly coveted and appreciated by the greatest monarchs of Europe. In 1663, Samuel Pepys, a member of the English Parliament, unknowingly contributed to Château Haut-Brion's success through his diary, writing " And there, I drank a sort of French wine called Ho-Bryan which had a very particular good taste that I had never encountered... ". The legend was born. The first Grand Cru Classé outside Médoc in 1855 and recognized as a Classified Growth in the Official Classification of Graves Wines in 1959, Château Haut-Brion continues to write the legend of the world's greatest wines by confirming, vintage after vintage, its exceptional consistency.

The vineyard

A reference among the great Pessac-Léognan wines and located in the heart of the Pessac agglomeration, Château Haut-Brion has an exceptional terroir on soils composed of multicolored gravels, producing sumptuous, elegant, precise wines with incredible consistency from one vintage to another.

The vintage

2005 was a historically dry year with a significant winter water deficit. April was wet, but rains were rare until the harvest. Temperatures remained high throughout the year, with climatic conditions similar to the 1949 vintage. The grapes, in perfect health, had small berries of a concentration never seen before.

Blend

Merlot (61%)
Cabernet sauvignon (20%)
Cabernet franc (19%).
