Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Gazin 2018
Tasting
This Château Gazin 2018 stands out for its freshness, elegant power and ripe tannins that offer a persistent volume in the mouth. As the tasting unfolds, aromas of red, black and floral fruits are revealed, enriched by woody notes evolving towards increased complexity with aging.
The vivacity and fruitiness of a Pomerol Red wine
The property
Testifying to very ancient origins, the Château Gazin was acquired in 1917 by Louis Soualle, great-grandfather of the current owners, the De Bailliencourt dit Courcol family.
The vineyard
An essential reference among the wines of Pomerol, Château Gazin watches over a superb 26-hectare vineyard planted on the high terrace of the clay-gravel terroir of this famous right bank appellation of the Bordeaux region.
The vintage
Despite a hot summer, heavy spring rains and the clay subsoil avoided a water deficit. The water stress, optimal for merlots and cabernet franc, set in gradually, thus allowing early maturity thanks to an early bud break and good disease control.
Vinification and aging
Aging in barrels (50% new).
Blend
Merlot (93%)
Cabernet franc (7%).
