Description
A Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe, captivating in its freshness and intensity
The property
As a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, the Chateau Figeac embodies the excellence of great Bordeaux wines worldwide. Chateau Figeac has been owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years. On September 8, 2022, Chateau Figeac was elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" in the Classification of the Grands Crus of Saint-Émilion.
The vineyard
A renowned reference among the great wines of Saint-Emilion, Chateau Figeac enjoys an exceptional location, to the west of the appellation, bordering the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard of the property is planted on 3 different gravel ridges. Respect for biodiversity, flora, and fauna are at the heart of the property's concerns.
The wine
As the first vintage as a 1st Grand Cru Classé "A" of Saint-Émilion, 2022 marks a new page in the history of the property. On this occasion, the label is adorned with a subtle nod to the family tradition, through a handwritten word written by Madame Manoncourt, in tribute to the band of the hundredth vintage signed by Thierry Manoncourt in 1993.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage is characterized by drought and heat. Temperature peaks were reached as early as May, resulting in accelerated vine growth. The season experiences cool nights and some salvific rains between June and July. These were conducive to avoiding water stress. The combination of the property's agroecological approach and the team's expertise allowed to preserve, despite these extreme conditions, the freshness in the soils and in the fruits.
Vinification and aging
Vinification by infusion and without sulfur. Fermentation at reduced temperatures, without punching down. Rigorous selection of new barrels for malolactic fermentation and for aging.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (40%)
Cabernet Franc (31%)
Merlot (29%).
