Description
An Award-Winning Cabernet Sauvignon with Layered and Luxurious Flavors
Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1971 by Lorna Belle Glos Wagner and Charles F. Wagner, with their son Chuck Wagner, when the couple decided to make their own wines from grapes they grew on their 73 acres in Rutherford instead of selling them to other producers nearby. The first vintage of their Cabernet Sauvignon was 1972 and in 1975 the Warners created the Special Selection label from the best Cabernet plots of the vintage. This signature cuvee later became famous for being the only wine in the world to earn the "Wine of the Year" title by Wine Spectator (for the 1984 and 1990 vintages). The Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 by Caymus Vineyards is a blend of the very best barrels of base wine from the 2014 vintage. The grapes were left to hang on the vine for longer than those of other Napa Valley vineyards, in order to allow for the development of tannins and more concentrated aromas. The wine is aged for 16 months in barrels of French oak before bottling. The Caymus Vineyards Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 shows off an opaque, dark ruby color in the glass. On the nose, the bouquet is intense and rich, offering dark fruits like blackberry and currant, along with touches of milk chocolate, anise and licorice and beautifully integrated sweet oak. This Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is layered and luxurious on the palate, offering intense black cherry and blueberry pie flavors, along with the same milk chocolate and cedar as can be found on the nose. An opulent texture is layered on fine-grained tannins which will soften even more with age in the bottle. Drink now through 2028.
