Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Batailley 2023
Tasting
Nose
The nose is seduced by its intense fruity framework.
Palate
The palate ideally combines present tannins, while remaining delicate, with a beautiful freshness.
A great lively and complex Pauillac wine
The property
The name of the Château Batailley refers to the Hundred Years War, a battle of which was fought in 1453 on the lands of the estate. Château Batailley became a wine property from the 17th century. This 5th Cru Classé in 1855 is produced in the Pauillac appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
This Château Batailley is a Pauillac wine from a 60-hectare vineyard, the vines of which are planted on soils made up of siliceous and gravel.
The vintage
Bud break is late due to alternating contrasting temperatures in March. If the spring humidity and heat favour a strong mildew pressure affecting part of the vineyard. Flowering is homogeneous, as is fruit set. Warm, June is punctuated by significant rainy and stormy episodes before a dry and relatively cool July. The colour change is slow and progressive. The second half of August is marked by high temperatures causing a significant slowdown in maturities without any loss of aroma.
Blend
Cabernet sauvignon (79%), merlot (19%) and petit verdot (2%).
